Overview
Today’s heating industry is more demanding and technically driven than ever before. But even with all of today’s innovations, a thorough understanding of the basics of the combustion cycle and the technician’s ability to properly prime and service a fuel oil pump is fundamental. In Course 1, we’ll provide that foundation that will drive your success as a technician. This course consists of seven (7) lessons, each designed to build on one another. A short quiz will follow each lesson. When you’ve completed the course, you will be able to:
- List the components of a combustion cycle
- Understand importance of good combustion on appliance performance and efficiency
- Understand the importance of combustion air, factors that impact combustion and how to verify you have enough
- Identify liquid heating fuels allowed for use in Beckett’s oil burners
- Grasp the impact of viscosity, cloud point, pour point and vacuum on fuel supply and combustion
- Understand importance of proper draft control to fuel fired appliances, how to apply and install
- Understand fuel oil pumps; Identify components, start up and testing
